We usually hear your concerns about how to make sure you don't lose anything before we change your computer for a new one.

Depending on the work you do, it might mean various things, but we'll try to give you a comprehensive list of what to take care of:

  • Documents and Desktop Files
You need to make sure all of your files are saved or synced either on a network share or OneDrive/Sharepoint.
The main issue we find is that users tend to save their work in progress documents on the local computer. This might comprise the following folders in your local Windows computer:
Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Videos, Downloads

All of these are not backed up, even if you aren't planning to migrate, we always recommend to save your files either on a department network share (Usually mapped drives named from P through Y) or your personal network share (Mapped drive to Z).

  • Favorites / Bookmarks
Depending on your browser of choice, saving your bookmarks follows a similar process. We are linking below some step by step guides:
Internet Explorer
Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox

  • Custom Applications / Other
Depending on your department or even area of work, you might have specific software that needs to be migrated to the new computer. Some of these might be the following (not an exhaustive list);
- Adobe Products other than Adobe Reader (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop...)
- Document Management Software
- Photo / Video Editing Software
- Microsoft Publisher

These are just a few but they serve as an example of applications that fall out of the regular installation of Microsoft Office or other departmental software that ALL coworkers share with you.

Please list these out and send and email to helpdesk@worthington.org or create a support ticket at helpdesk@worthington.org. We will make sure that we create a to-do list that will help us migrate your software on the day we replace the computer.
