First thing you need to ask yourself is where your personal files and documents currently are located:

A. Desktop and/or My Documents and/or other folders in My PC?

B. On the network shares / mapped drive, like the Z drive or as a folder with your name in the Y drive?

In either case, follow steps 1 to 3 to get OneDrive setup and logged in. after that, if A is your case, you can use the built-in automated sync automation from OneDrive described from Step 4. If B is your use case, jump to Step 7.

1. If on a Windows 10 computer, go to the OneDrive icon on the lower-right of your screen (taskbar) and click on it:

2. Log in with your City Email address and current password:

3. Click on Next unless you want to use Change Location to choose a different folder in your computer to sync those files (e.g. A second hard drive).
We recommend enabling the backup option recommended by the setup, this will automatically sync the files on your Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders in that computer:

After that step, you'll have to click Next a couple of times more while going through a quick set of slides with OneDrive features. The last option will be Open My OneDrive Folder, which will show where in your computer the new folder is located, visually.

You will (almost) always have an empty OneDrive folder, but your newly synced folders will always have City of Worthington in the name, so you can differentiate them.

4. If you skipped the backup option on Step 3 and need to go back to it, you'll need to left-click on the OneDrive Taskbar, then the cog icon icon and select Settings.

5. Choose the Sync and Backup option on the left sidebar and then click on Manage Backup.

6. Select which folders you want to sync and then click on Start Backup.

7. If your case is B, where your files are on the network. You can either reach IT at helpdesk@worthington.org and request the move, or follow the next steps:

Locate the drive where your files are (our example will assume it's Z:) by either using any shortcuts you have or by clicking on File Explorer on the taskbar:

8. For your mapped network drives, go to the left frame and scroll all the way down and click on your Z drive:

9. Now, we want to open your OneDrive local folder, where we will paste your network files and let them sync to the cloud. One way to quickly find your OneDrive folder is to left-click on the OneDrive Taskbar Icon and select Open Folder:

10. Now that you have your folder with your current files and the OneDrive one, you can select your files from the network and choose Copy and then Paste on OneDrive.

The synchronization will happen almost immediately as files get copied across the network.

IMPORTANT! Depending on the size of your files on the network, this process might take a while, so plan to not need to touch the computer while this process is happening to avoid stopping the copy job. Also, this option will change the date when these files were created and last accessed, so if this is important for you or your records, please contact IT so we can migrate your files for you without altering any dates on them.
